What?! No Steam? :(
No steam…for now >:)
Does The Foglands utilize the unique features of the latest PSVR2 headset?
YES IT DOES! We are using dynamic foveated rendering with eye-tracking (Everyone asks us this hehe). We use eye tracking for intention targeting and headset rumble as well as resistive triggers for a more immersive experience. For a deeper dive, check out our extra cool blog discussing just that.
How long/big is the game?
Depends how quickly you can adapt. A full “run” in our roguelite will take around 45-55 minutes. And we’ve had players clear the game in around 8-12 hours. Our game has 3 primary ‘biomes’ and bosses, which means there’s plenty to explore!
Can you tell me about the roguelite elements?
You start by buying your gear (guns, tools, explosives) in your Hub before the run to have as strong a start as you want. You can also just dive in nude (in real life or in the game).
From there you head down an elevator into the first floor of the run. There are 3 biomes with 2 floors on each, one is a boss floor and the other is for exploration, combat, building your power, etc. Each biome gets harder and the bosses are all different. Collect cards to build your power and go further before you expire! There are also vendors that sell you new weapons, health kits, explosives, and cans of beans!
And lastly, there is a fully voiced story that is structured similar to Hades! Learning more about the world and its characters the more runs you do. All in all, we just made TOO MUCH GAME!
Can you describe the action/combat experience?
At its core, it’s a shooter game, however, the player can utilize both “melee” and “throwing” to damage and combo enemies. Wanna fire your gun? Sure. Smash a stool over someone’s head? Yup. Throw a wrench at someone, have it bounce back, and then catch it for a second round? Abso -tootin’ -lootly! One last feature to mention here is “time slow” during combat. This boost triggers when doing sweet combos, giving you extra time to dodge bullets, reload, and feel like you’ve just entered The Matrix.
How do the VR and FPS modes compare?
Both modes were actually built in tandem. We had to constantly be asking ‘is this a good VR experience?’ as well as ‘how does this work in flat mode?’ Because of that we have a really fun game in both modes and they play pretty differently because of the various design solutions we came up with.
Will there be a physical release in the future?
2024 is the hope, friends. Wouldn’t it be a dream to walk into a Game Stop and see it up on the shelves, The Stranger drawin’ you in with his big ol’ grin?
How did this idea come to be?
The idea was originally conceived by founders, Sam Warner and Marc Meler, for their college thesis project! Sam grew up in an overcast Seattle and found himself imagining gunslinging cowboys lost in the fog, shooting out street lights that looked like giant glowing eyes. From there they drew tons of inspiration from Stephen King, Fallout, Red Dead and everyone’s favorite, Dark Souls.
After graduation, they created Well Told with some friends, dreaming of making the full game one day. The Foglands came about as a want for more western-styled adventure games that had community at its heart.
